A joint initiative of the ACT and Australian governments to improve the quality of water entering Canberra lakes and waterways and flowing downstream into the Murrumbidgee River system
The project scope included landscape and planting design for a range of water quality assets including ponds, wetlands, riparians, and bioretention ponds and swales.
MADE LA undertook initial site investigations, tree assessments and plant species selection through to detailed design, documentation, construction supervision and 2 year consolidation for water quality planting.
The Healthy Waterways Projects delivered a range of environmentally sensitive waterways landscapes introducing planting schemes that improve water quality. The assets are also highly utilised community spaces attracting people and encouraging active lifestyles.
A continuation of the first phase of ACT Healthy Waterways, Stage 2 aims to implement lessons learned from Stage 1 into additional Water Quality assets throughout the ACT.
The project scope includes landscape and planting design for a range of water quality assets including ponds, wetlands, riparians, and bioretention ponds and swales. One site in Belconnen proposes the first use in the Southern Hemisphere of a ‘Subsurface Wetland’.
